Life in parts of the world came to a (cycling-link: "grinding halt", "standstill") because of [[COVID-19]].
Yet, [[life at Davidson]] was still moving right along.Life in the Coronavirus Pandemic
By Mark Ahari
[[Begin]] Life at Davidson was [[normal]]. We would get up, go to our classes, do [[homework]], and whatever else we like to do. [[Spring break]] break was coming soon too, which would provide a nice break.Looking back on things, normal seems like a foreign concept. We all wish wish we could go back to things as they were as we try to establish some sense of normalcy now. But things will not return to normal for a while and we may have to find a new normal after the pandemic.
Anyway, back to [[life at Davidson]] Flash foward to the week after spring break. Life at Davidson still continues on as usual, but things across the country are much worse. [[Sports]] has come to a screeching halt. Some colleges and universities have already moved to online classes and told students to go home. With the way things are going, it seems like just a matter of time before Davidson [[follows]].March 3: the NBA takes precautions in regards to players' interactions with fans and other players
March 11: the NBA suspends its season after a player tests positive for COVID-19
March 12: the power conferences in the NCAA cancel their conference basketball tournaments, the NCAA cancels March Madness, and the MLB delays the start of its season for two weeks
This is when it got [[real]].
Back to [[Spring break]] Sure enough, Davidson transitions to online classes and recommends that people [[move]] back [[home]] if possible. It's crazy how much the suspension of sports influenced people's reactions to the pandemic. It's as if people getting sick and dying was enough to get some people to take this seriously.
Anyway, back to [[Spring break]].It was strange being back home in the middle of the semester. However, due to COVID-19, a lot of things about this semester are going to be [[different]].It was strange moving out of my dorm. It felt like it was the end of the semester, but the semester was only about halfway through.
[[Zoom]] is now a big part of our lives. We wear masks whenever we go outside. Essentials like toilet paper are hard to find. [[Social distancing]] distancing is now the norm. And with all this time at home, we have to keep ourseleves [[entertained]].Zoom has suddenly become a critical part of online classes and working from home. Where would we be right now without Zoom? There have been times when I have been walking in my neighborhood on a warm day and it is almost hard to practice social distancing because there are so many people doing the same thing. What is COVID-19? It's a virus that was first identified in Wuhan, China. It causes respiratory issues among other symptoms. But we still don't know a lot about it.Wildcats work hard. It doesn't matter if it's a national holiday or the sky is falling. We'll still go to class and do our work. What do you do with all this time at home? The fact that there is no sports make things harder. There's binge-watching TV shows, watching movies, organizing the entire house, exercise. At this point, if you've thought of it, you've probably done it.
So, [[what's next?]]Who knows. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The END.
